Officials Certification Seminar Sept 28th
On Sept 28th, SoCal Karate is honored to host Fariba Madani, Chair of the USANKF Referee Council, and Secretary of the WKF Referee Commission for an officials certification seminar and licensing session.
Session to be hosted at the Hollenbeck Youth Center in Los Angeles, CA, and is open to all interested parties. You must be 18 years or older and at least a shodan to receive a license.
Understanding the rules and their administration is critical to success in competition. Don't miss this opportunity.

SoCal Host Olympic Gold Medalist Sandra Sanchez, & coach Jesus Del moral
SoCal Karate members, JMAC Karate, hosted Olympic Gold Medalist, World Champion, and World Games Champion Sandra Sanchez and her coach, and partner Jesus Del Moral for a unique training session Saturday Dec, 9th. The session did not focus on the kata or technique for competition, but rather the science and organization of preparation. The world renowned guest instructors shared how the combine modern sports science with centuries-old tradition to form the winning formula that supports competition, and a life long pursuit of Karate mastery.
SoCal Represents in Merida, MX
Four SoCal Area athletes traveled to Merida, Mexico for the September Karate1 Youth League Competition. 3 of the athletes come home with top 5 finishes with two USA Junior Team members, Brielyn McCammon and Flay Goodwin, brought home Bronze and Silver, respectively in the thier Kumite Divisions. Teammate Bryce McCammon, missed teh podium by one point, landing him a 5th place finish and his first time in the top 50 world rankings.
SoCal Shows Big in Chile at Pan Ams
SoCal area athletes showed up big at this years Jr. Pan American Games in Santiago Chile. Team USA claimed the Championships for Karate at the Games logging a total of 13 Gold, 12 Silver, and 18 Bronze medals.
Among the local area winners:
Lance Santos and David Ho, both of Jinen-Kai Karate, along with Mateo Nacu from Chicago, brought home the gold in 14 - 17 year old male team kata.
Alex Nguyen of JMAC Karate brought home the silver in Cadet (14 -15 year old) male kata
Malak Hussein of JMAC Karate brought home a bronze in Under 21 Female Team Kumite along with teammates Miriam Tujillo, Gloria Rosendo, and Cayla Gapusan

SOCAL KARATE COMMITS $5000 TO AREA ATHLETES FOLLOWING THE '23 NATIONALS
Contribution makes the 3rd Straight year of SoCal Karate's investment in area athletes and the 3rd consecutive increase in the athlete awards.
SoCal Athletes take the podium in Richmond VA and secure spots in santiago chile
JMAC's own Alex Nguyen (pictured above), was among the many SoCal Athletes to take the podium at this year's USANKF National Championships and USA Team Trails in Richmond, Virgina. Alex battled through a grueling 3.5 hour Cadet Kata Divisionto take the Silver Medal and secure a spot at this year's Jr. Pan American Championships in Santiago Chile.
Alex as one of more than a dozen SoCal athletes to qualify for the 2023-2024 USA Jr. National Karate Team. Athletes taking top honors represents JMAC, Jinen-Kai, IKF Los Angeles, JKO San Diego, NRK Karate, and Okinawan Karate UCSD.
Podium Finishers, from SoCal Karate Federation member dojos, that participated in the 2023 SoCal Prep Championships will qualify for cash awards ranging $440 to nearly $1200 based on the number and level of their podium finishes at the Nationals. Funds are intended to help the area athletes afford the training and equipment needed to continue to advance their success on the international competiton stage.
Socal area athletes grab top marks at the 2023 Senior Pan American Championships
outhern California Area Athletes Sakura Kokumai, Gakuji Tozaki, and Jessica Kwong were among the top finishers at this year's Senior Pan American Championships in San Jose, Costa Rica.
Kokumai, secured the top seat taking the Gold, with a finals victory of USA team make and fellow Southern California resident, Jessica Kwong. Jessica's Silver medal win, ensure US dominance in the Women's kata division.
San Diego's own, Gokuji Tozaki to the second seat in the men's Kata Competion behind USA teammate Ariel Torres of Florida.
